Guest Post and Giveaway Love and Relativity by Rachael Wade

Description:

Love, life, and happily ever after? It’s all relative.

Marine biology student Emma Pierce lives in paradise—geographically speaking, anyway. Stranded on Sanibel Island, Florida, she works at a nursing home by day and spends her nights dodging the island's infamous bad boy, Jackson Taylor, at her favorite karaoke bar. Trying to heal from the loss of her sister and a failed relationship she rerouted her life for, she's ready to graduate and finally leave Florida behind.

When a run-in with Jackson and his rowdy crew goes sour at the bar one night, sparks fly and irreversible damage is done. It’s no secret that Jackson loves to get underneath her skin, but this time he's gone too far. Now all he wants is to earn her forgiveness before she's gone for good, but their ideas of closure—and the future—are enough to keep them worlds apart.

This is a stand-alone title but coordinates with The Preservation Series:

GUEST POST
"Happily Ever After - a Mirage?"

Some romance writers are automatically assumed to be idealists—romantics at heart who believe in happily ever after. I am definitely one of them. I married my high school sweetheart, after all. But I can also vouch for those of us who are also realists, in addition to being diehard romantics.

Just because I believe in devotion, the beauty of long-term commitment, and fate, doesn’t mean I don’t live in the real world. I’m a firm believer that we can love more than one person during our lifetime. We just love them in different ways. I also come from a broken home. My parents divorced when I was young. There was no fairy tale or happily-ever-after going on there. Some people cheat, all people change, and not every couple are meant to be.

Just because I’m a romance writer doesn’t mean I pretend to know it all when it comes to relationships. I don’t know the key to a successful happily ever after. But I do believe in it, and I know what works for me and my relationship—so far. Those thoughts surface in my New Adult romance series, The Preservation Series. Love and Relativity, a companion novel to the series, also deals with the possibility of happily ever after. What does it look like? Does it even exist? And what does it take to achieve?

All of my characters experience similar things to what I’ve experienced in my own relationships. They have to learn how to pick their battles, know when to let go and move on, and learn how to trust. They learn that a successful relationship means hard work. Sometimes love really isn’t enough. Relationships are flat-out complicated and real devotion, which I believe leads to happily ever after in real life, is messy. Sometimes it’s downright painful, and you really have to want it. Both parties have to be invested, and even then, circumstances can still get in the way.

Thankfully, I have my fiction to explore the complexities of relationships and the idea of happily ever after. I write and read about all kinds of characters as they navigate their way through the realities—and fantasies—of being in relationships. But I’ll continue to draw inspiration from my own marriage and the real world, and hopefully continue to learn along the way.

How about you? Are you a romance reader? Do you believe in happily ever after? Why or why not? How do you think happily ever after in real life differs from an HEA in a romance novel?
