Interview, Excerpt and Giveaway Positive/Negativity (The Depth of Emotion #1) by D.D. Lorenzo

Published: November 6th, 2013

Description:

Positive and negative forces peacefully coexist within the lives of ordinary people every day.

Aria Cole has a desire to create beauty in whatever environment she is placed. The emotional toll of expending her heart diverts her to a new direction, and she flourishes while creating beauty in a new way. When a personal loss finds its way into her world, she experiences heartbreaking devastation. Her memories have compelled her to a place where she experiences peace and contentment.

Declan Sinclair’s occupation demands that he use his body as much as his mind, and it forces him to move in a fast-paced world. When the accelerated pace of his lifestyle encourages him to personally navigate the course of his professional destiny, he seizes the opportunity to retreat to his refuge and prepare a vocational strategy.

When positive and negative circumstances merge the lives of Aria and Declan, they find they have more in common than the love of a place of peace. Can the lives of two people, the events that unite them, the circumstances that surround them, and the attraction that draws them be enough to put their lives into balance and assist them in finding what they both secretly desire?

MB's INTERVIEW
Thank you, Mrs Lorenzo

I read that you found the real love in high school and live the “happily ever after” since then. Who do you think can write a better romance: the person who is happy in love/life or the one who still looking for its great love? Does it matter writer’s own experience, or just the writer’s imagination?
I did find the love of MY life in high school. He was/is perfect for me because he balances my life. That being said, I can’t say who definitively would write the better romance because I believe what matters most is the heart of the reader who is reading the story. What do they respond to; what do they desire in love; what titillates and excites them? That is where I believe the second part of your question is answered. The writers experience and imagination both come into play. I have been with the love of my life for quite some time, however our life and our love have been far from perfect. My writing reflects both my personal experience as well as my imagination into how I wish some instances had played out differently. It all matters.

What do you think about intimate scenes in a romance story?
They are the heartbeat of the story! You cannot have a relationship without intimacy. To write a story which involves a relationship, without some semblance of intimacy, is unrealistic. Different writers will choose how far, and how descriptive, they will take the scene. I am a fan of both having read authors who are extremely explicit as well as conservative. I believe the writer, the story and the fans dictate the demand.

Are there disadvantages when the story is told from the point of view of both main characters? And why did you included points of view of some secondary character as well?
I don’t believe there is a disadvantage as it is the only way I know to view life in general; to hear both sides of a story. As to why I included the view of secondary characters? I wanted the reader to be inside the characters head.

Do you believe that outer beauty does not matter, only the interior one? Who would be the ideal man/woman in your opinion? How far/close are Declan and Aria from your ideal type?
I believe that outer beauty does matter. No matter shape, size, weight - I think it is a personal responsibility to keep the body they have been given looking as nice, and as healthy, as possible – BUT – everyone has a flaw. Some wear it on the outside, some keep it hidden. How you learn to accept your flaws, and love yourself in spite of them, is the true way to reflect your beauty.

I don’t have an ideal man or woman. I prefer to know someone before I form an opinion. You can meet a really “hot” guy or girl, and they can treat you like dirt. The reverse is true as well. Someone not so “hot” looking, can put you on a pedestal. Who you prefer is up to you.

Aria and Declan are close to who I pictured when I wrote the story. I think they are beautiful people, inside and out – and flawed. They are pretty close to my ideal because they are real.

Cliffhangers – to love or to hate them? Are they good or bad… for a love story?
I’m going to get into so much trouble for this…I’m not a big fan – but sometimes it is necessary. If you have the option to make an 800 page book or split it into two 400 page books, I opted for the two. Only in Aria and Declan’s story though. I was afraid that as a debut author that a book of that length might bore my readers, and I was advised to split it into two. I want you all to know the end of their story, because I know it, so I’m working hard to get “Selective/Memory” released in March or April, 2014. There will be three other books in the “Depths of Emotion” series. They will be “stand alone” books about characters introduced in the first two.

EXCERPT:

…He was so sensitive to my inner thoughts, quickly reminding me that most of the people that I’d be meeting tonight weren’t real. He pointed out that many of them were fabrications of a perception of beauty. Some even adopted alter egos when they attended public functions. He went on to explain that some, not all, had very little depth of emotion, especially in those people whose beauty was manufactured. As our conversation was ending, he reminded me that my Declan was the real one, and that I could be assured that I held his heart.

Feeling a bit overwhelmed and anxious, I was thankful to slip into the ladies room for a bit to reminisce on the memory of his words. Just a moment would suffice to think and touch up my make-up. I tried to remember the tips and tricks that Aimee shared with me while I got a second wind.

Gazing in the mirror to put the final touches on my hair, I felt an eerie chill on the back of my neck. I knew it was her before I heard her voice.

“You don’t honestly think that will help, do you?” came Marisol’s voice as she moved into an attack position.

I didn’t respond in the slightest, and I refused to give her the satisfaction of acknowledging her presence. She moved slightly thinking I would turn.

Again, she tried to bait me.

“Seriously, Aria, you should take a good look at what you see”—Marisol made a circling motion with her finger up and down my frame—“then go out and look at Declan. Even you can see that he’s much too fine to be with the likes of you. You may have been his worker for this project, but that’s where your relationship should end—as his employee.”

I could feel anger rising within me, but I was still holding my ground and hadn’t addressed her.

She obviously didn’t like being ignored as it motivated her to move to the mirror next to mine and enticed her to address me more closely and maliciously.

I lost my own battle, gazing toward her. She knew she was victorious and gave me the most contemptuous of smiles.

“Of course,” she continued her merciless venting, “Since you were sleeping with Declan the entire time, you performed this renovation while under his employ…” She paused for effect as she sneered, “One could assume you were a paid whore as well.”

Now I felt the need to address her!

Feeling the unexpected heat and anger rise up inside of me, everything felt as if it were moving in slow motion. I turned very slowly as to be certain to make complete eye contact with her. I lifted my clutch and tucked it under my arm in a deliberate and ladylike manner. Making a conscious decision that I wanted this bitch to know exactly how I felt, I turned to address her.

Moving ever so closely so that I could look her in the eye, Marisol held her stance. For those few moments, she stood confident, thinking she had fed my insecurity and rocked my confidence.

She…was…wrong!

E interesanta coperta, si titlul de doua ori mai mult. M-ar interesa sa o citesc si sa o am in maini. Imi plac cartile bune, si din ce vad si din ce citesc, asta se incadreaza perfect acolo.
