GUEST POST
I Loved That Book! (And I Still Do)

Growing up, I loved these books (and I still do):

  • ANNE OF GREEN GABLES by L.M. Montgomery - I love this book so much that I named my daughter after Anne.
  • A LITTLE PRINCESS by Frances Hodgson Burnett - Oh, how my heart broke for poor Sara Crewe when her father died and she had to move into the attic and become a servant.
  • TRIXIE BELDEN - this spunky girl detective inspired my love of mysteries.
  • THE PHANTOM TOLLBOOTH by Norton Juster – one of the few books on this list with a male protagonist. I love the whimsy and wordplay.
  • THE GIRL WITH THE SILVER EYES by Willo Davis Roberts- I was fascinated with Katie’s psychic powers.
  • DAISY FAY AND THE MIRACLE MAN BY FANNIE FLAGG - This is probably the book I’ve re-read the most. I read it about once a year. It makes me laugh out loud every time.
  • Every book by Stephen King. My favorites were CARRIE, FIRESTARTER, IT, and THE STAND. I started reading Stephen King when I was way too young. I don’t regret it one bit.
  • THE GIRL WHO OWNED A CITY by O.T. Nelson - My first dystopian. I didn’t even know the word “dystopian” until years later. The concept of a disease wiping out all the adults, and kids forced fend for themselves blew me away. The story took place in Glen Ellyn, IL, a town about an hour from where I grew up. At college, when a girl in the dorm room next to mine said she was from Glen Ellyn, I felt like I was meeting a celebrity.
Whether it’s because of the young heroine, the mystery, the thrills, the romance, the darkness, the psychic powers, the sleuthing, the twists, or the adventure, every book on this list had an influence on what I like to read and write today.

Which of these elements are in RUN TO YOU? Lots of them: A young heroine, thrills, twists, darkness, psychic powers, and romance. Lots and lots of romance. And here’s a bit of trivia for you: A Little Princess was originally a serialized novel, just like RUN TO YOU is today!

About the author:
Clara Kensie grew up near Chicago, reading every book she could find and using her diary to write stories about a girl with psychic powers who solved mysteries.

She purposely did not hide her diary, hoping someone would read it and assume she was writing about herself. Since then, she’s swapped her diary for a computer and admits her characters are fictional, but otherwise she hasn’t changed one bit.
