Interview: Missing Royal (Finding Gold, One) by Konstanz Silverbow

Published: March 25th, 2014

Description:

One princess destroyed the world. One princess must save it.

When she was little she wished to be a princess. Now as a teenager she just wishes she fit in. But Shanice doesn't feel like she belongs, she never has.

When her parents tell her she is the last known princess from another world, it all makes sense. A world full of magic in place of technology. One where she is more than just royalty, she is their last chance to stop the one who is bent on destroying it. Mendina.

But she can't do it alone, first she must find the other missing royals. In her quest, Shanice will be forced to choose between the course prophecy set for her, and the one that leads to the man her heart belongs to.

MB's INTERVIEW
Thank you, Mrs. Konstanz Silverbow
Can you find similarities between the creation of a jewelry and the writing of a book?
You have to build piece by piece in both cases. And there is always lots of editing in both cases! Trial and error! *laughs*

„When Shanice was little, she wished to be a princess. Now as a teenager, she just wishes she fit in.” – How a heroine of a Fantasy must be in your opinion, and how do you create yours?
I think that everyone has a different definition of hero/heroine. I believe the definietion revolves what they have done to overcome. Whether it be their own demons or someone else. You can be your own hero, you can be someone else’s hero, you just have to believe in yourself.

You are a „dragon collector”. What do you love most about dragons? Is your collection a source of inspiration for your books?
Hmm . . . asking me what I love most about dragons is like asking me what my favorite book is. I just love everything about them. I love fractured fairy-tales and that’s sorta where it all began. I was sick of the “dragons are evil” cliché so I wanted to change it – show the world that dragons are good creatures. Magical, powerful, caring creatures! And oh yes, every dragon I own is going in one of my stories.

You learn about medieval weapons and your Missing Royal takes place in a world without technology. Is pretty safe to presume that you had the opportunity to „use” the weapons you learned about. What it takes to write a good fight scene and are there any significant differences between how a woman and a man writer writes them?
I most definitely get to use medieval weapons in Missing Royal. In fact, research for this book eight years ago is where it all started. As for what it takes to write a good fight scene? Huh, I’ll let you know when I get that figured out! Haha! Definitely not my strongest point. And as for the differences in writing a woman or a man in a good fight scene? As far as I’m aware, no. Shanice is a strong willed girl who knows her stuff. And she doesn’t take crap from anyone.

What are the most three important elements of a good Fantasy?
Personally I believe these three things are a must: A good adventure, epic fight scenes, and dragons! J It doesn’t hurt to have a good clean romance in there as well.

EXCERPT

We don’t race like usual. No games or laughing. Just silence as we ride through the trees and towards the gate. The one place I’ve always wanted to go. The one place I wish I was never going. The one place I can’t avoid.
We arrive at the gate far too soon. I begin shaking. My hands tremble as I fidget with the reins. My entire body is tense. I’m not sure what terrifies me the most about this whole scenario but one thing I know for sure, this is real.
It isn’t a joke set up by my parents. This isn’t just a dream that’s about to end. Tears well up in my eyes once more as I finally let the truth sink in – I’m leaving everything I’ve ever known and never coming back.
Everything I know is behind me. And all that lies ahead is a life I’m not ready for. People wait for me because they love me, they claim me as their own but I do not know them. It’s like my whole life is walking along a cliff. One more surprise, one last push and I’ll go over.
I don’t know who I am anymore. I don’t know much of anything. I’m walking into the unknown with someone I thought I knew, but don’t really know at all. Each haunting thought fills me as we approach the gate. So desperately I long to turn around and run now while I still can.
“My dear Shanice, please be comforted and know that you are being watched over. No harm will befall you at this time. Feel peace, my daughter.” The haunting voice of my mother, the one who beckons me, overcomes my senses. And where it terrified me before, now her voice is soft and comforting.
I feel the peace she wishes me to and as scared as I am, as much as I don’t want to go, I make it to the gate and continue walking as it opens with one loud squeal. Valentino allows me to enter first. Perhaps he can feel how much I feel like running right now and knows I won’t make it through on my own.

But I nudge Star forward, sobbing uncontrollably. Five steps in and I pull on the reins. I turn around in the saddle and watch the gate close. More racking sobs overtake me as my past is closed behind me by a hauntingly beautiful gate.

Imi place numele Shanice.
