Happy Release Day! Fading Light (Shadow Born #2) by Angela Dennis

Description:

Tagline: Everyone has a breaking point.

Her hundred-year penance lifted, Shadow Bearer Brenna Baudouin returns to the Earthly plane with her partner, Gray Warlow, to keep the peace between humans and supernatural creatures—and to prevent another apocalyptic war from happening.

The attraction between them is nearing a critical point, but their checkered history has left Brenna unable to trust either her heart or her instincts.

It’s chaotic business as usual until humans begin turning to statues of dust. There is no explanation, no sign of magical foul play or a biological toxin. The humans are convinced it’s the work of a deviant supernatural faction, twisting the knife in the already tense relationship between their species. Brenna and Gray agree—the deaths have a former comrade-turned-rogue stamped all over them.

In a race against time, they enlist the help of both friend and foe to save the human race and stop the impending civil war. Along the way, they are forced to come to terms with their past and decide, once and for all, whether they will come together or fall apart.

Warning: Contains a heroine who knows her weapons but not her own heart, an outbreak of supernatural proportions, copious bloodletting, and a race to save an endangered species—humans. All tied up in a tight bow of sexual tension.

GUEST POST
Between Lust and Love in Urban Fantasy

It’s such a pleasure and a privilege to be asked to guest blog on Mythical Books, and I’m very glad for the opportunity.

There is a very blurred line between Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance. The best description I’ve ever heard to compare the two genres (and I have no idea where I heard this, so I am not able to give the appropriate credit) is that if you take the romantic relationship out of an Urban Fantasy, you still have a complete story. The relationship is not central to the plot. But if you take the romantic relationship out of a Paranormal Romance, you no longer have a fully developed story. This creates quite a quandary for those of us who write Urban Fantasy, but want to develop strong romantic subplots. Where is the line? When do we leap over the fence from Urban Fantasy into something else?

All books, regardless of the genre, have room for a little lust. In fact, it’s commonplace. But love, well love is something altogether different. It’s the development of a relationship that makes romance novels endearing. Two characters coming together, learning about themselves and one another, then falling in love. Love takes many forms in romance novels, all of them wonderful and unique. I’m a huge fan of romance, and the skill it takes to craft a believable relationship book. But I also love Urban Fantasy, and I see no reason why the two can’t co-exist. Although it’s difficult, it can be done

One of the things I love about Urban Fantasy is that it is a thrill a minute. The pace is always fierce, even when it lulls. My characters are constantly fighting battles, solving mysteries, and avoiding their enemies. And, as we all know, it’s really hard to take time out and develop an emotional connection when you are busy, especially that kind of busy. But there’s still that flash of attraction when you look over in the heat of battle and see the other person giving it their all. That night when you’re forced to hide in a safe house, and talk for hours. Relationships grow and develop, even in the midst of chaos.

I like my paranormal adventure with a heavy dollop of romance, so I write Urban Fantasy. But I also like my romance with a heavy dollop of paranormal adventure, so maybe one day I’ll try my hand at Paranormal Romance as well.
