He dreams of freedom - Deliverance by Kristy Centeno

"Holy. Crapazoid. I loved this book so much! I’m not normally a vampire or werewolf kind of person, but that didn’t even matter for this book. The characters are amazing, regardless of what species they belong to. (I just sat here for five minutes with my mouth hanging open in a very unladylike way and hands in the air trying to come up with the words to continue this review; I’ve actually been rendered speechless by this book!) " - Lynn, Goodreads

Description:

He’s been locked away his entire life.
He dreams of freedom.

The only way he can accomplish his goals is by breaking free of the chains tying him to a dark past and gloomy existence. But there’s one catch. He’s not human.

And he’s never set foot outside his jail.

Devoted to saving his peers as well as his own life, he sets out to find the one person that can help him achieve his objectives. He knows where she will be and what she will look like, but what he doesn’t anticipate is the fact he finds himself caring for the girl whose life he’s put at risk, more and more each day.

He has no name.
He has only known hatred and violence before her.
However, she will teach him to have faith in humanity, even if she can’t trust him.

Together they will embark on a journey to bring down a corrupt system responsible for the loss of many innocent lives. But when he finds his feelings compromised, can he still move on knowing that doing so will put an end to the life she once knew? How far is he willing to go to be free?

As I discover new authors my list tends to change a bit here and there. That sums up my list for this year. It might change again next year though.

What inspired you to write this book?
A dream. Cliché, I know. But it’s 100% true. I had a very odd dream one night while I was pregnant with my last daughter, saw a series of images and people that seemed so real to me, I just had to write down everything I remembered as soon as I woke up. I spoke to my significant other about it and he told me it made for a good scenario for a book. Cue the light bulb flashing on!

I spent months writing down ideas as they came. I’m not much for outlining, but with this book, I felt it was necessary because there were so many complicated aspects to it that I didn’t want to miss a single thing.

I got to working on the manuscript, wrote the first three chapters then set the project aside as I prepared for the birth of my daughter. I didn’t touch the manuscript for a long time, and kind of forgot about until I stumbled upon the notes I penned on an old notebook.

So I started putting the story together little by little. It took about a year to write as I had to stop to reflect on the plot and see if it made sense and if it worked. Eventually, I completed the manuscript and was so excited to see the finish product.

If you knew you'd die tomorrow, how would you spend your last day?
I’d spend my day with my family, having fun and making the best of the day. I’d go on a vacation or do things I never had the bravado to do before, like jumping out of an airplane or bungy jumping.

What are some of your pet peeves?
People that have no sense of what personal space is.

Describe your writing style.
I generally write in first person point of view so I tend to be as descriptive as possible as I transition from paragraph to paragraph and from one scene to the next to help readers envision what I’m trying to communicate and paint a clear picture for them.

What makes a good story?
I believe what makes a good story is an engaging plotline with relatable characters that blend together perfectly and make readers submerge themselves in the world the author has created with words.

What do you do to unwind and relax?
It depends on the day and my mood. But I like to sit down and read a book with a hot cup of coffee in hand. Sometimes I’ll take a bubble bath and read. Others I’ll go for a walk. Or I might sit and watch a movie with the kiddies.

How do you find time to write as a parent?
It’s tricky when you have kids. I work during the day and come home to five children that either need or want my attention in some way so I must juggle my time very carefully.

I take care of the kids and the house first. Trust me, I can’t write if there is a mess or if the kids need me for something because my mind will be either stuck on the mess or distracted by the little ones.

So I put the kids to bed at the end of the day, make sure everything is nice and tidy, then go to my little office space to write. I generally don’t stay up late because I must get up early so I do what I can in the time that I have. It’s not much of a system but it works.

What made you want to become an author and do you feel it was the right decision?
I always wanted to write, ever since I was very young. I used to scribble on notebooks and lose pages all the time growing up and it was my dream to have a book published one day.

What really got me into pursuing writing was the need to give the characters inside my head a voice. The need to put my own stories out there. I wanted to write stories I’d want to read and it all got started with one book, Secrets of the Moon.

I do feel as if pursuing my dream was the right decision. I’ve accomplished one of my goals and it only help me set higher goals for me to work on.

What can we expect from you in the future?
I’m currently working of finishing the Giver of Life trilogy. Book two will be released in May and book three is over 25, 000 words in already. I have plans to add more to Tiger and Kristina’s story, and hope I can also add the last two books to the Secrets of the Moon saga. I think I’ll be plenty busy in the upcoming years.

About the author:
Kristy Centeno is the author of the Secrets of the Moon saga and Keeper Witches series.

She has always had a passion for books and after years of being an avid reader, she decided to transform her desire to write into a reality and thus, her first novel was born. When she’s not busy taking care of her five children or holding down the fort, she finds time to sit and do what she loves the most: writing.
