AUTHOR's Q&A

Can you tell us a little bit about the characters?
The characters in The Blended Ones are quite diverse.
Phyllis and Ilieus are seventeen year old twins who also happen to be Blended Ones. They are pretty opposite. Ilieus is prim and proper, soft-spoken and pretty. Phyllis is wild and impulsive, slightly tomboyish and pretty determined. The two aren’t concerned with the affairs of the world, they are focused on each other and the longevity of their lives.

Cuthan the Charmer is a Treasure Hunter, a Jeweled Ones, a Seeker. He’s a fun-filled, crush-worthy guy with an air of adventure and a relentless drive for power. Some days he might be on your side, other days, he might not be. You have to watch out for Cuthan.

Do the characters all come to you at the same time or do some of them come to you as you write?
The main characters are in place, but some of them come to me as I write. Also, while the main characters have names and background, their personalities come to life as I write and I love it! I never know what they are going to say and do next, but it’s an adventure finding out. I love writing characters who are dark and devilish but I also love writing characters who are good, kind and noble.

What kind of research do you do before you begin writing a book?
My research is ongoing, I read a lot and watch a ton of TV shows and movies, making note of what I enjoyed about storyline. I know there are many books on writing, how to write and how to make your novel great, however, I believe the best research is seeing or reading a story for yourself, seeing a story in action.

How did you come up with the concept and characters for the book?
Eliesmore and the Green Stone is my masterpiece. It’s actually the first part of two books, the sequel, Eliesmore and the Jeweled Sword, comes out in Spring of 2018. I came up with the concept of Eliesmore because of prophecies and legends about the Chosen One. The Chosen One is a trope in fantasy, especially epic fantasy, which people either love or hate, but I wanted to do something a bit different. Eliesmore is the tale about a hero saving the world from the powers of evil, but it take a unique twist the readers won’t be expecting. Power, ultimate power is dangerous, and I love the way the book plays out.

In regards to the characters, in traditional fantasy there aren’t very many females, and if there are, they are your typical evil sorceress, damsel in distress or some other sex symbol. I like creating females who aren’t your typical characters, you never know what they will do next.

What did you enjoy most about writing this book?
I love seeing the characters come to life, it’s the best part of writing. They are good and bad, light and dark, they argue, have insane motives, stand up for each other and enjoy a good fight. They don’t always make the right choice, they make mistakes, but once you get to know them, you love them, despite how crazy and annoying they get. There will be characters you root for, and others you’ll want to choke out and remove from the book altogether. It’s a wild ride with these characters.

What do you think about the current publishing market?
It’s interesting. Right now I’m seeing the people who have money to write, publish, and market their books stand out from those who have zero budget. It’s a competitive marketplace and still, there’s room for everyone. When I think about how many books I can read in a year, I know there’s a place for more. I believe the industry will continue to grow and publishing will continue to be a massive marketplace. There are several different ways to read, paperbacks, ebooks, audiobooks, and now augmented media is coming to ebooks and it’s quite exciting to be on the cutting edge of new technology and innovative ways to reach readers.

Do you have a favorite movie? which of your novels can you imagine made into
a movie?
I would LOVE for The Five Warriors to be made into a movie or a TV Show. There is none stop action, a fight against good and evil, magical weapons, romance, dark secrets and more. It would be amazing to see The Five Warriors on the big screen.
